Surprisingly, there are a number of dog surf competitions in San Diego County throughout the year. This weekend was the annual Dog Surfathon at Dog Beach in Del Mar, CA. The dogs were divided by size and surfed 20 minute heats. They were judged on how long they stayed on the board and how much fun they were having. The crowd was huge and all in good spirits. It was a super fun event especially for all the dog lovers!
I especially enjoyed all the adorable outfits which included lots of board short wearing dogs. There was even a bikini contest with a runway for the dogs - ridiculous but awesome!
If you're ever interested in having your pup compete here is more info!
Also this weekend was a charity surf event taking place in Oceanside called Surf for the Sea. My neighbor Cindy Nichols competed in the event so we went down to root her on! Surf for the Sea is a memorial surf event for local surfers that have passed along with several charity organizations being involved like the Surfrider Foundation.
